Caught in the Web

Caught in the Web

The World Wide Web has been growing in leaps and bounds providing us with information at our fingertips and many of us are getting quite caught up in the web. In fact Web addiction is growing at alarming levels and it even comes with its own symptoms – lack of sleep, dry eyes and what not. Web addiction is prevalent in all ages [even children get sucked into this massive web] and is preventing serious work being done.  A person who is addicted to the web cannot go a single day without browsing the web and though he might do something useful on-line , mostly the time is spent on the same website (social networking most probably) hoping something new may turn up. Some of the crazy games on-line are proof of the addiction. There is a game which involves you clicking a button continuously for a minute. I don’t know what is the point of the game, maybe it provides your fingers with adequate exercise. Social networking sites are the vogue and you can see almost everyone joining in one of them and connecting with friends. Who needs to go out with buddies while you can stay where you are and chat? Who needs to play games outside and break windows when you can play inside in the safety and comfort of your house? Why do you need to go out to the stores when you can order on-line ? These are typical questions a web addict would ask. Our World in the future maybe just a bubble with you and your laptop and you would be probably chatting with your family (Me: Mom, breakfast in Bed)!!! So people go out and get a life. We don’t want to be creating web addicts annonymous.

Promote new Website

Hey there, do you want to go on a fancy cruise to the Caribbean’s?  Or want to ride a beefy motorcycle? Or perhaps want to own an elegant watch? Then I would like to announce the grand opening of  100DollarDreams.com, on the 12th of July. An amazing auction site where you could get all this and more. It’s really safe and user friendly too. What more could a serious auctioneer ask for?

It’s better than the other auction sites mushrooming about everywhere nowadays in that it does not peddle electronic gadgets and cooking ware. It’s much more distinguished than that. Bidders get to compete for the “big ticket” such as cars and Vacations. Yeah, exciting products that people might only dream about buying!

Each bidder, to reserve a seat for an auction must pay no more than 100$ and once the seats are filled the bidder gets intimated via an email. The auction starts at the next Friday and the bidder gets to have 20 bids. On exhaustion of that the bidder is out of the auction and cannot buy another seat for that particular auction.

One of the good things that can be said about this site is that the bidder knows exactly the number of competing bidders and also how much exactly are they willing to stake. This is something that’s not found in other auction sites. And once you make a bid your name will appear on the screen along with those others who had bid. So it’s no Russian roulette! “No one likes to be intimidated by the unknown”, says Dreams chairman Brian Heinz.  This is indeed a fair method as every bidder has the same advantages and only “strategy and persistence” is required.

So all in all, it sounds like a really good site which caters to the accumulation of the loyalty of serious bidders who are looking for a seriously fun auction (not to mention safe) experience.

Socialspark_small
Taking the advice of a couple of my friends who managed to make a quick buck, I decided to take the plunge into the world of blogging. I spent an entire week sorting through the sites and picking out the scams. That is when I came across SocialSpark. From the research I had done I found out that this site was way different from the other blog advertising sites. What’s the difference you may ask?? This is the only site that lets us give our own opinion on the product and not just some lies to make the advertiser look good. One thing which really made me stand up and take notice was that this site is really great for your site’s ranking. In most other sites when you write a blog you are not allowed to specify that it is a paid post which might be a little confusing to your followers. Paid posts are generally penalised by search engines and your PR might just plummet down but in SocialSpark they have a “nofollow” attribute that prevents this. For a lot more interesting facts about the site, you can check out the Code of Ethics. The registration process for the blogger is really simple. You just give your name, email-id and blog. There is a simple process to verify your blog which involves pasting code in the HTML part of your blog. Once this is done, you just give some information about yourself and your blog and it is all set and done. Once your blog is confirmed, you can start responding to advertisers and then hopefully its a hop, skip and jump to Money Central.

Conscience

Conscience

Conscience – The dictionary defines conscience as the inner sense of what is right or wrong in one’s conduct or motives, impelling one toward right action. So if you think about it there is a biological explanation for almost everything we come across nowadays. What about conscience then ??What is that inner sense ?? Does it originate in our brain. The answer is a simple no – Conscience comes from our heart. We have never heard of the heart having any functions related to thinking. This is a great biological mystery then – why do we feel guilty? How does our conscience know what is right or wrong. I don’t have an answer biologically but I do have one spiritually. When we hear that little voice in our heart saying something, it is nothing but God speaking to us through the holy spirit. The Bible says in I John 3:21 : ” Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God ” . So our heart which is nothing but the holy spirit working in us tells us what to do and if we follow it we can stand confidently before God. We have heard about lot of people who hear God talking to them. Even you can listen to what God has to say in your heart. “Speak Lord for your servant is listening” (I Samuel 3:10)

Octopus PAul

Octopus PAul

This football season has produced a number of great hits other than football in FIFA world cup 2010. First there were the vuvuzelas that cause the irritating sound you can hear when you watch a match. And now the most popular octopus in the world Paul, has taken centre stage. Paul is a German octopus who predicts the winner of a football match and more often than not he is right . He has a 100% record this world cup and is now the most sought after psychic in this world. In fact some gamblers from New Zealand have so much faith in his abilities that they are backing what Paul predicts. But being a psychic does come with its down sides. A number of angry German fans are demanding the killing of Paul who predicted the German loss to Spain in their Semi final encounter. In fact a number of tasty dishes that can be made with him is being published online. I guess a case for the prosecution might be that the prediction made by the octopus must have given the much needed confidence that Spain needed. This is utter nonsense. Do you kill a man who predicts right?? I guess the Spanish Prime Minister has offered him protection so hopefully Paul does not end up on anyone’s dinner plate soon . Personally I think that Paul has taken a fancy to the bright colours of Spain and Germany rather than the dull white in Argentina and England. But anyway till he keeps up his perfect record we can continue to marvel at this Octo-Wonder.

SMS

SMS

Short Message Service or SMS as it is more commonly referred to represents text messages with few words sent through mobile phones. The inventor of the SMS service, Friedhelm Hillebrand found out that random sentences used about 160 characters. He then got a brainwave to use an unused portion of the mobile network to send 160 characters as text messages. In the beginning this service was not hugely successful as people just did not want to use it, that is until some teenagers got the hang of it. SMS then became the fad among teenagers. It was cheap, easy to use , quick and could be used anywhere. I really do wonder if the multi-tasking concept caught on from messaging. You can see teenagers eating, working, playing or just about doing anything with the cell phone on one hand and messages being sent at lightning speed. In fact when they really get used to it they do not have to even look down at the keys. So there came the sudden popularity of SMS and the developers started working to enhance the concept. The 160 character limit was no longer enough and so the developers stringed together messages. They also came up with the emoticon concept to express feelings in a graphical way. With developers working to enhance messaging, the teenagers side by side developed the SMS language. The language tried to minimize the number of characters used by converting word like “you” to “u” and “great” to “gr8″. A number of acronyms came about like LOL (Laugh out Loud), ROFL (Roll on Floor Laughing), BRB (Be right back) and many more. This SMS language has become so prevalent that it is being used in normal conversation. For all this, SMS has its disadvantages. Misunderstandings can arise a lot as people find it difficult to understand what tone the sender is using and SMS can never beat a phone conversation anyday. But all said and done Kudos to Friedhelm Hillebrand for this great mini messaging service.
